You know that friend you have who wears a shirt that says “I’m silently correcting your grammar”? Or who corrects your misspelled texts? Or twitches when you share a grammatically incorrect meme? But is also the first one you think of when you need to edit a document or need something proofread?
What if I told you that friend is me?
You’d be pretty excited, right?
And what if I told you that I’d love to work with you?
That’d be even more exciting, wouldn’t it?
What if I told you there were no more questions?
(I promise there aren’t.)
I’ve always been that friend people go to for help with spelling, grammar, and content questions. I’ve been the one to read and give feedback on a paper or document, finding if it makes sense and is easy to read. While I’m not formally trained as an editor, I liken myself to Will Hunting (from the movie “Good Will Hunting”) when he told Skylar that when it comes to math, he could just play. Well, I can’t add anything without a calculator but I can make your writing clearer and more concise, tell you that you need to fix a sentence, or find a punctuation error because I get it.
I can just play.
Over the years, I’ve parlayed that ability into various careers in publishing, teaching, and writing. Because of that experience, I know I can edit your words to help you create the best product possible. When I edit your words, it’s just as important to me that it sounds like you as it is to make sure all the words are correct. I care about it as much as you do and I want to see you, and your book or blog, succeed.
If you’re concerned about my experience, you can read testimonials from current and former clients. I’ve been honing my skills through workshops and classes so I’m up-to-date on current grammar rules and standards. I’m also a member of The Editorial Freelancers Association.
I know that hiring an editor is a daunting task. You want to make sure that you can trust her with your work and that she’ll be there for you. And it’s not always easy to trust a stranger with your manuscript.
I completely understand.
But I promise you’ll be a part of the entire process. I don’t want you to be stranger. I won’t leave you out and I assure you that I make myself available to answer questions. I won’t ghost you mid-edits.
Because it takes two to make a thing go right. It takes two to make it out of sight.
That includes your manuscript.
So let’s get working.
And let’s make your project amazing.
